See, there often comes a time in life (MANY times, really) where we are faced with something that we can’t or don’t want to do.
And I’m not talking about doing things that scare you…
I’m talking about situations where you feel like your emotional bandwidth or your skills are being taken advantage of.
Times when your intuition says NO—but you say yes to avoid hurting other people’s feelings.
In these cases, it can feel very difficult to establish boundaries, and so you say YES… Even though you know it’s not what’s best.
Does this sound familiar?
Here are some more signs you need to say NO!
ONE, you’re feeling blackmailed or manipulated.
TWO, you feel guilty about letting people down.
THREE, you are not honoring your needs for safety or health or balance.
FOUR, you are scared of how someone might react.
FIVE, your natural tendency is to people please.
I can totally relate to people pleasing.
For almost my entire life, I felt the pressure to put the needs or wants of others before my own.
From sexual abuse as a child, to working jobs that weren’t in alignment with my values, to toxic relationships…
I learned the hard way that saying YES all of the time can leave you feeling drained and overwhelmed.
So even though it felt uncomfortable, I started to practice saying no.
And over time, I got better at it…
And better at it…
Until I was ONLY saying yes to things that aligned with ME and my values.
My emotional bandwidth was protected and I was able to show up as my authentic self when it came time to do so.
See, when we say NO to something… we say YES to something else!
